Who said the Ottumwa school board would raise student fees?
Those folks won’t speak up now because the school board approved keeping the student fees the same as last year during this week’s board meeting.
John Donner, the school district’s business manager, told board members that parents would “pay the standard parents’ fees for the coming year.
“We want to help folks as much as we can,” he said.
For example, the fees for elementary students were $48, and Donner said the fees will remain the same for the coming year. The fees cover items such as textbooks and other materials students need.
Also on the board agenda was a bond issuance for $8,895,000.
“The money will be used to complete a new elementary school,” Donner said. “We have borrowed some funds, and part of the issuance will be to remodel Douma Elementary, and the work starts after the school year is done.”
Donner said no property tax will be involved and the payback will be taken from the one-cent sales tax.
“And, we won’t be raising property tax,” he added.
