Mustang linksters edge Keokuk

Ottumwa Courier

---- — BLOOMFIELD — The Davis County boys golf team got in a tight dual with Keokuk on Monday under overcast conditions. The Mustangs edged out the Purple Chiefs by three shots with a team total of 177 at the Bloomfield County Club.

Sam McClure led Davis County with a round of 40, one shot off Keokuk’s Blake Miller for meet medalist honors. The Mustangs’ junior varsity also picked up a win as all four Davis County varsity golfers fired in the 40’s for the team win.

“We just need to get a little more depth going for us,” Davis County head boys golf coach Jack Boatman said. “We need our third and fourth score going a little lower, but again we had no practice time. It’s probably been that way throughout the entire state. Those scores are pretty good considering the conditions.”

The Mustang boys are scheduled to join several area team today in Centerville at the North/South Invitational.
