GROB: A not-so-fond Favre-well

By JAMES GROB, Courier sports editor

No way do the Packers ever find someone that good to play quarterback again, for the next 17 years. For my Vikings, Favre’s retirement is addition by subtraction.

Of course, there is already speculation that Favre will have second thoughts about his decision and come out of retirement.

Please get those ideas out of your head, Brett. Spend more time with your family. Take up fishing or golf. Or maybe even needlepoint. Anything at all, but for Heaven’s sake, stay off the football field. Vikings fans don’t want you there. Neither do Bears fans. You’ll just cause us more frustration and heartbreak.

In the interest of sportsmanship, I’ll even tip my proverbial hat to the man. I never thought that I’d ever admit it, but he very well might have been the best quarterback to ever suit up on a Sunday. And when he wasn’t beating my team, he was probably the most exciting to watch.

So goodbye, Brett. Enjoy some rest. You’ve earned it.
