KNOXVILLE — The final match of the day in singles competition at the South Central Conference tennis meet would decide the team winner on Monday.
It went to Albia and more specifically the Lady Dees’ Britt DeVisser, who upset Centerville’s Heather Buttel 10-8 in their finals match and allowed her squad to take home the team title.
Albia won the meet with 21 points. Centerville was second with 20 points. With the win, Albia has now won consecutive SCC crowns.
“DeVisser sealed the deal for us. That was real special,” said Albia head coach Mark Scholes.
Whitney Thompson and Jackie Taylor snared first place in doubles play for the Davis County Mustangs. Allison Berner and Katie Berner of Centerville were runner-up competitors. The Mustang duo won 10-7 in the finals.

Britt DeVisser of Albia defeated Bonnie Carter at No. 1 singles 8-4. DeVisser teamed with Rachel Chambers at No. 1 doubles to defeat Carter and Sheila Higgins 8-5.
That would be the only two matches the Lady Dees would win as MSAE swept the rest.
Angela Sickler blanked Albia’s Shelby Wilson at No. 3 singles 8-0.
“Having not had a lot of matches so far this year, it was great to see the girls play so well. They’re only going to get better,” said MSAE head coach Laurie Eyre.
