DES MOINES — The Ottumwa tennis squads barely broke a sweat on Monday at Des Moines North.
The Bulldogs each picked up conference win No. 2 in each team’s CIML Metro clashes.
The Ottumwa girls squad improved to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in league play with a 10-1 shellacking of the Polar Bears. Ottumwa lost just eight games in singles play.
The Ottumwa boys improved to 3-4 overall and are also 2-1 in league play now. The Bulldogs one-upped the Bulldog girls team by blanking North 11-0. Ottumwa lost just 12 games in singles play.
“It was a perfect evening for tennis and we made the most of it. Sometimes you let your guard down when an opponent is shorthanded but the boys stayed focused,” said Ottumwa head coach Alan Paris.
The Ottumwa girls No. 1 player Jana Sandova blanked her opponent in straight sets in singles play. So did OHS junior Kayla Wagner at No. 6 singles.
Ottumwa’s Tyler Brown won his match at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1 and Elliot Higgins blanked his Polar Bear opponent in straight sets.
Chris Siegel and Riley Hansen won at No. 1 doubles for Ottumwa, 6-2, 6-3.
