AREA TRACK & FIELD ACTION: Eddyville-Blakesburg wins both SCC boys and girls titles

BLOOMFIELD — Eddyville-Blakesburg scored a dominant victory in the South Central Conference track meet Monday, winning 10 events and finishing with 163 points.
Albia took second with 121 points. Centerville came in third with 87 points, Davis County fourth at 60 points and Chariton fifth with 58 points.
Jacob Batterson again played a starring role for the Rockets in the win. Batterson won the 110 hurdles, 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. The E-B sophomore won the 110 hurdles by over two seconds with a time of 14.84. Batterson finished seventh in the state in the event last season.
In the 200, Batterson clocked a 22.75 for the win. In his last victory, Batterson ran a time of 11.27 in the 100 meter dash.
Zach Baker added another win for E-B in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 10:49.76. Guy Lasley finished second in the event for the Rockets. Baker also won the 1,600, crossing the finish line in 4:39.50.
In the 400 hurdles, Ben Taylor notched the victory for E-B with a time of 58.84. Blake Lunsford won the long jump for E-B with a jump of 20-2.
The E-B relay teams also did well, winning the 4x400, shuttle hurdle relay and the 4x800. In the 4x400, the Rockets ran a time of 3:33.58 for the win.
Centerville’s Wallace Carter notched a pair of wins for the Big Reds in the field events. Carter won both the shot put and the long jump. In the discus, Carter easily topped the competition with a throw 162-2.25.

Eddyville-Blakesburg wins SCC meet
BLOOMFIELD — The Eddyville-Blakesburg girls track team ran away from its competition at the South Central Conference meet Monday in Bloomfield. The Rockets racked up 152 points to top Albia who finished with 112 points.
Davis County came in third place with 102 points. Chariton came in fourth with 92 points.
Eddyville-Blakesburg claimed four first place finishes en route to the victory. Megan McDonough started the Rockets off with a win in the long jump. McDonough leaped 15-2.5 in the victory.
Taylar Swartz also had a good day for the Rockets. Swartz won the 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:46.86. The E-B senior finished second to her teammate Ariel Brown in the 1,500 meter run. Brown clocked a 5:13.83 to win the event.
Brown added another victory in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:27.27.
E-B won its last event of the day in the 4x800. The team of McDonough, Whitley Schertz, Jessyca Bunnell and Courtney Sheffler ran a time of 10:31.25.
The Rockets also came in second place in the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:16.73. Kelly Lane, Sara Tanner, Trinity Van Dorin and Kirsten Brown ran for E-B. Megan Shay came in second place in the discus with a throw of 93-8.5.
Albia matched the Rockets with four first place finishes of its own. Liz Anderson won the discus with a toss of 93-8 for the Lady Dees. In the 100 hurdles, Kassi Ward claimed top honors with a time of 16.79.
The Albia relay teams also did well. The team of Ward, Shelby Wuebker, Kara Goemaat and Gaelen Morgan won the shuttle hurdle relay in a time of 1:11.66. The Lady Dees also won the 4x100. Ward, Deb Metz, Katie Curran and Tiffany Lenger competed for Albia.
Wuebker added two second place finishes for Albia. Wuebker took second in both the long jump and 100 hurdles. Katie Curran finished second in the 100 for Albia with a time of 13.64.
Davis County’s Amanda Wakelin took home the title in the 400 meter dash for the Mustangs. In the 400 hurdles, Katie Dekker of Centerville won with a tie of 1:09.99. Davis County’s Felica Shunk finished second.

Oskaloosa finishes fourth at Little Hawkeye conference meet
KNOXVILLE — Oskaloosa took home three first place finishes and came in fourth place at the Little Hawkeye Conference Meet in Knoxville on Monday.
Grinnell won the meet with 119 points. Pella finished second with 106 points. Oskaloosa tallied 74 points in the meet.
The Indians claimed their first title in the distance medley with a time of 4:23.13. Maddi Sams, Haley Brostrom, Lauren Williams and Trisha VanDusseldorp ran in the event for Oskaloosa.
VanDusseldorp was just getting her day started. She won both the 800 meter dash and the 400 meter hurdles. VanDusseldorp set a meet record in the 800 with a time of 2:20.87.
In the 400 hurdles, VanDusseldorp ran a personal best time of 1:04.52.
Sara Dickinson added a pair of second place finishes for the Indians. In the 1,500 meter run, Dickinson clocked a 4:55.76, setting a new school record. Dickinson finished the 3,000 meter run in a time of 10:39.7.
Oskaloosa took third place in the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:08.10. Jacque Gordy, Allison Rohloff, Sam Lowry and Courtney Major competed in the event for Oskaloosa.
