BURLINGTON — The Davis County girls tennis team took a tough 5-4 loss at the hands of Notre Dame in action at Burlington on Monday. Jackie Taylor, Kim Leyda, and Courtney Emery all took singles wins for the Mustangs, while Amy Rardin teamed up with Nikki Wilson to earn a win in doubles play.
“They played well at the net and had several nice volleys,” said Davis County coach Sandy Warning. “Amy hustled to get to several baseline shots. They played well as a team.”
Rardin lost a close match at No. 2 singles to Notre Dame’s Sami Wills, falling 9-8 in a tiebreaker.
“It was the first tie-break she had played and I think she lacked confidence to finish it, as she was up 4-1 and never won another point,” said Warning. “Jackie dominated her match at No. 3,” Warning added. “She maintained control throughout and made few errors. Kim played with consistency at No. 5 and let her opponent make errors. Courtney moved well and also played with consistency at No. 6.”
The Mustangs (2-7) will travel to Holy Trinity today.
