Bulldogs back to .500 with sweep

DES MOINES — The Ottumwa baseball team rose back to the .500 mark on Thursday versus Des Moines North.

Head coach Ryan Woods team improved to 8-8 overall with a 10-3 and 12-8 sweep of the one-win Polar Bears (1-15, 0-12).

The Bulldogs had lost six of their seven games before the CIML sweep improved its league mark to 7-5.

Adam Goodvin pitched a complete-game three-hitter for the win in the opener. He struck out six.

Ottumwa combined for 23 hits. Daniel Goodvin was 3-3 in the first game with a triple and double. Ben Lott was 3-4 in the nightcap with two doubles and Chris Cordray went 3-4 in the opener. Lott rapped out three doubles.

Brandon Enloe earned the win in the second game in three innings of work.

“The thing that we did the best was hit the ball and run the bases well,” said Woods. “If we can keep playing like that against good teams, that will give us a better chance.”

Ottumwa plays in the Brent Prange Classic today at Grandview College. The Bulldogs take on Indianola at 12:15 p.m. and second-ranked Sioux City North at 2:30 p.m.
