Staloch does it again; perfect versus North
DES MOINES — Perfect and Des Moines North have been a match made in heaven for Ottumwa ace pitcher Missy Staloch.
It’s been a sensational run for the junior Bulldog hurler as of late. She kept it going on Thursday.
Staloch amazingly pitched her third-consecutive perfect game versus North in CIML Metro play, a game her Ottumwa softball team won 10-0 in five innings. That incredible streak dates back to last year.
Staloch, now 11-3, faced the minimum and struck out 13 batters.
Staloch’s amazing prowess inside the pitcher’s circle is fresh off the heels of being named the Iowa Network Services Class 4A Softball Player of the Week. Staloch was distinguished with the award after she mowed down hitters last week and went 5-0. She gave up only one earned run in 30 innings of work during that span.
“Missy’s got it going,” said Ottumwa head coach Frank Huston.
Ottumwa, ranked seventh in Class 4A, scored five runs in the second inning and banged out 10 hits.
OHS eighth-grade centerfielder Sammy Garrett went 3-4 with a double. The Bulldogs’ freshman shortstop, Paige Schreiner, was 2-4 with a double.
The second game of the scheduled twinbill could not be completed because an umpire fell ill.
Ottumwa (19-5, 9-2) plays in the Cedar Rapids Jefferson Classic on Saturday. The Bulldogs begin the day with a game versus Dubuque Hempstead at 11 a.m followed with a contest against 11th-ranked Mount Vernon at 3:30 p.m.
