AREA SOFTBALL ACTION: M-U wins wild 14-inning Bluegrass battle

MOULTON — It took 14 wild innings, but the Moulton-Udell softball team managed to come out on top Thursday in Bluegrass Conference action against Moravia.

M-U then turned around and took an 11-0 win over Seymour in a Bluegrass makeup game Friday afternoon.

On Thursday, the Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the 14th inning to take a 9-8 victory over the Mohawks in a back-and-forth game which was highlighted by two outstanding pitching performances.

M-U’s Mackenzie Clark and Moravia’s Annie Moore both pitched all 14 innings, with Clark coming out with the win despite Moore striking out 26 M-U batters. Clark fanned 15 of her own to pick up her fifth win of the season.

Madison Probasco and Clark each tripled while Kaylee Stansberry homered and had three RBI for M-U, as the Eagles and Mohawks were tied at 4-4 at the end of seven innings. M-U matched a Moravia run in the eighth and matched another in the 11th, but Moravia put up two in the top of the 14th to lead 8-6. In the bottom half, Probasco’s base hit scored Kassi Guinn to tie the game and Probasco scored the game-winner when Clark reached on an error.

Kaylee Stansberry took to the mound for M-U on Friday, allowing just two hits while fanning 10 batters through four innings in the 11-0 win over Seymour. Kadarenna Sales worked the fifth inning. Stansberry helped herself out at the plate with a home run, a double and five RBI. Probasco had two hits, including a double.
