Bulldogs knock off No. 2 North

SAYDEL — The Ottumwa baseball team picked up its biggest win of the season on Friday at the Brent Prange Classic in Saydel.

Head coach Ryan Woods and his squad were one of 22 teams in attendance at the loaded tournament.

The Bulldogs knocked off Sioux City North, ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, in a 13-10 slugfest.

Ottumwa’s first game of the classic was a defeat at the hands of Indianola 3-0.

Further details of the two games were not available as The Courier went to press.

With the big win over Sioux City North, Ottumwa is now 9-9 on the season. The Bulldogs remain 7-5 in CIML Metro play.

Ottumwa hosts Des Moines Lincoln in a doubleheader at Legion Field on Monday. The Bulldogs swept the Railsplitters earlier this season.

Lincoln is in Ottumwa’s Class 4A Substate, along with Southeast Polk, Dowling Catholic, Indianola and Oskaloosa.

The Bulldog will then host Mount Pleasant on Tuesday and finish the week with a twinbill at Des Moines Roosevelt on Thursday.

Ottumwa has encountered numerous rainouts this season, including a doubleheader at Johnston. That twinbill is scheduled to be made up on Friday, July 10.
