Pekin falls in pitcher’s duel
HIGHLAND — It was a good, old-fashinoned pitchers’ duel at Highland Monday night.
The Pekin softball team came up on the short end of a 1-0 Southeast Iowa SuperConference contest against Highland. Highland’s Mariah Freel battled Pekin ace Mycaela Crouse, with Freel allowing just one Pekin hit.
Crouse only gave up three hits, but two of them came in the fourth inning and plated the game’s only run. Pekin’s Dominique Tolle reached with a single in the fifth, and advanced to third base in the inning, but the Panthers just couldn’t get a big hit to bring her home.
Pekin is now 23-4 overall and 12-3 in the SEISC, tied for first with Louisa Muscatine. The Panthers will travel to English Valleys tonight.
