FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield baseball squad swept Keokuk on Friday by scores of 7-1 and 5-4.
Brandon Haines was the winning pitcher in the opener and Eric Ballew picked up the win in the nightcap. Haines struck out five and Ballew fanned four.
Haines homered and knocked in two runs in the first game. Jake Dunbar was 2-2 with two runs scored in the other game.
Ballew collected two RBI and was 2-3 in the first game. Dylan Gilpin was also 2-3 with an RBI. Gilpin knocked in two runs in the second game.
“Brandon was on top of his game. He threw a complete game in 72 pitches. Offensively we had some really clutch, two-out hits,” said Fairfield head coach Josh Allison.
Fairfield scored the winning run in the nightcap in the bottom of the sixth after Keokuk tied it in the top half of the frame.
Fairfield plays at Mount Pleasant tonight.
Tri-County falls to HLV
VICTOR — Tri-County fell to HLV in South Iowa Cedar League baseball play 6-4 on Friday night.
Ryan Schmidt was 3-4 with two runs scored. Ike Schmidt knocked in two runs. Colt Brumbaugh and Seth Maxwell each had a hit and knocked in a run.
Colt Brumbaugh suffered the loss in five innings of work on the hill. He struck out seven.
Tri-County plays at Iowa Valley tonight.
