AREA FOOTBALL ACTION: Halverson romps past Cardinal

ELDON — Dennis Halverson opened the 2008 football season with a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

And then things just got better.

Halverson broke into the end zone four times as the Van Buren Warriors took a 54-0 win over Cardinal in football action at Eldon on Friday.

The speedy Warrior finished with 171 yards on the ground on just seven carries. He had scoring runs of 90 and 45 yards and also hauled in a 54-yard touchdown pass from Van Buren quarterback Bryce Philips.

Philips, Grant Ledger and Spencer Watson added touchdown runs for the Warriors, who compiled 407 yards of total offense. Van Buren will host Winfield-Mount Union next week while the Comets will look to regroup as they travel to English Valleys.
