AREA GIRLS BASKETBALL ACTION: Ninth-ranked Redettes blast Osky

CENTERVILLE — The ninth-ranked Centerville girls basketball team improved to 2-1 on the season Tuesday with a 56-20 blasting of Oskaloosa in non-conference action.
The Redettes lost to 14th-ranked Knoxville and defeated Adel in action over the weekend.
Kaylee Mehroff led all scorers with 16 for Centerville and Sam Robinson notched 12 points.
Centerville held Oskaloosa — which was led in scoring by Sarah Hynick’s eight — to just 10 points in each half.
Centerville (2-1) is at Fort Madison on Monday.

DANVILLE — The Cardinal Comet girls basketball squad picked up a nice 57-51 road victory on Tuesday night over Danville in SEISC play.
Sarah Yeager pumped in a team-high 22 points for the Comets. Chelsea Aschenbrenner found double figures with 13 points for Cardinal.
Cardinal did not lead until four minutes were remaining in the game.
Cardinal (2-0) hosts Van Buren this coming Tuesday.

IOWA CITY — The 10th-ranked Iowa City West Women of Troy defeated Fairfield 69-37 in non-conference girls basketball play on Tuesday.
Maryn Fulton paced the Trojan attack with 11 points and Meredith Flattery pitched in with 10 points.
West shot 54 percent from the floor.
Fairfield (0-1) is at Oskaloosa on Monday.

Van Buren falls short to Holy Trinity

KEOSAUQUA — Van Buren fell 48-40 at the hands of Holy Trinity in SEISC girls basketball action on Tuesday evening.
Van Buren pulled to within two points with three minutes remaining in the contest but Holy Trinity free throws iced it.
Brianne Corry led Van Buren with 18 points and dropped two 3-point buckets. Dakota Zeitler notched 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
“I credit our kids for staying in there and coming back. We’ll just go from here,” said Van Buren head coach Randy Smith.
Van Buren (0-1) plays at Cardinal on Tuesday.
