Turnovers haunt Sigourney boys in loss

SIGOURNEY — The Sigourney boys' basketball team struggled to take care of the ball in its 54-43 loss to B-G-M Monday in South Iowa Cedar Conference action.

The Savages had 22 tunrovers against the Bears. Blaine Gretter shepherded Sigourney's offense with a team-high 13 points and Jordan Albert added 10 points and drilled three of Sigourney's four 3-pointers.

"It was pretty tight throughout," Sigourney coach Mitch Eslick said. "In the third quarter, we really struggled on the offensive end and we committed too many turnovers and missed too many free throws."

Aside from his offensive output, Gretter also paced the Savages with a team-best 7 rebounds.

Despite his team's flaws, Eslick was able to glean some positives from the game.

"Our kids played really hard," he said. "They really worked hard on the boards."

Sigourney (3-7, 3-7) plays South Iowa Cedar Conference opponent Iowa Valley today in Marengo.
