OSKALOOSA — After picking up an exciting 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Ottumwa Babe Ruth Senior team in extra innings Saturday afternoon, the Oskaloosa Babe Ruth team went on to shut out Fargo, N.D. 10-0 Saturday evening to clinch at least third place in the Midwest Plains Senior Babe Ruth tourney at Lacey Recreational Complex.
The game came to an end in the fifth inning because of the 10-run rule. Nick Rutledge pitched superbly for Osky, allowing zero hits while striking out three and issuing two walks in four innings of work on the hill. Jesse Van Dalen relieved Rutledge in the fifth and tossed a scoreless inning to close the door on Osky.
Clutch hitting combined with Fargo's fielding woes — the North Dakota team committed seven errors — helped Osky pile up the runs through the innings. The boys finished with 10 hits overall. Trent Roose and Colton Swanson each recorded two hits for Osky.
Osky takes on the Eden Prairie Babe Ruth team from Minnesota at 1 p.m. Sunday in a rematch from an earlier tourney game between the two teams.
If Osky beats the Minnesota ballclub, it will face the undefeated Charleston Fighting Squirrels from Missouri at 4 p.m. Sunday. If the boys down Charleston, they will turn around and face the Fighting Squirrels again at 11 a.m. Monday in the Midwest Plains Babe Ruth tourney championship.
