Rally leads Fairfield past Pella Christian

FAIRFIELD — One big inning proved to be enough for the Fairfield Trojans on Saturday, who took a break from pursing a Southeast Conference crown to edge Pella Christian 6-4.

Spencer Peterman, Chet Vogt and Jordan Whitney all had a hit, drove in a run and scored during the six-run rally that would be all the offense Fairfield would need against the Eagles. Pella Christian the Trojans’ 6-2 lead in half in the fifth and brought the game-winning run to the plate in the seventh before Darrin Dimmitt record the save with a strikeout in the bottom of the seventh.

Fairfield (12-7) returned to a tight battle for the SEC crown with a battle for first-place in a doubleheader at home against Mount Pleasant Monday as the Courier went to press. The Trojans step back out of conference for a road test at Mid-Prairie tonight.
