MSAE shuts out Fort Madison

Ottumwa Courier

---- — FORT MADISON — The Maharishi of the Age of Enlightenment boys tennis team did what it does best Tuesday — win.

In an impressive display of dominance, MSAE shut out Fort Madison 8-0. The Pioneers had little trouble putting away their opponents, with the exception of Surya Sawhney, who fought off a stiff challenge from Fort Madison’s Jonathan Temenak 6-1, 4-6 (7-5).

In a complete reversal from Sawhney’s match, Solaris Nite blanked Wes Bernhardt in No. 2 singles action.

Other Pioneer players were one or two games away from shutting out their opponents. For example, Chandre Morales thrashed Ross Simpson 6-0, 6-1 in No. 5 singles play and the team of Stickels and Gelfand also claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 1 doubles play. In addition, Sawhney and Girinda Selleck handily defeated Simpson and Drake Hogan 6-1, 6-1 in No. 3 doubles.

The rest of the team’s performances fell a little short of the dominance attained by their teammates, but were impressive nonetheless. With the win, MSAE stayed perfect at 8-0.
