Chariton claims narrow victory

OSKALOOSA — The Chariton girls golf team edged the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont girls 203-204 in a triangular that also involved three Centerville golfers Tuesday at Harvest Point Golf Course.

Since they didn’t have at least four golfers on hand, Centerville didn’t have a team score recorded. The Chargers were shepherded to their narrow victory by Leah Dow and Miranda Davis, who notched the top two scores at the triangular. Dow carded a 47 and earned medalist honors and Davis claimed runner-up status with a round of 48.

Cassie Carpenter followed closely behind her teammates with a 49 and Rocket Sheri Gutch recorded a 49 as well. Lauren Bupp garnered the second-highest score among the Rockets with a 51. The Rockets’ Harlie Boyer and Jarrah Jensen and the Big Reds’ Bailey Johnson all finished with a 52.

For the Chargers, Elyssa Black shot a 59, Mikaela Plank and Tiana Richard both carded a 60 and Haley Reese shot a 73. Centerville’s Molly Heffron carded a 64 and Erissa McGill shot a 66.

Rounding things out for the Rockets were Emma Haselhuhn (66) and Andria VerSchuure (72).
