---- — OTTUMWA — A slight accumulation of freezing rain and the threat of more potential winter weather forced the postponement of at least two area basketball doubleheaders and an area junior varsity wrestling tournament on Friday.
Cardinal, which postponed a trip to Pekin for a non-conference girls/boys basketball doubleheader on Thursday due to the winter weather conditions, also postponed a trip for a Southeast Iowa Superconference south division doubleheader at Van Buren on Friday. Both schools called off all evening activities as Cardinal cancelled school on Friday while Van Buren closed early due to the weather conditions.
Van Buren still has a home doubleheader with Missouri’s Scotland County slated for this evening. Forecasts are called for the southern Iowa area to be under a winter weather warning starting this afternoon at 3 p.m. and lasting into Sunday evening at 6 p.m.
A tentative makeup date for the Cardinal-Van Buren doubleheader in Keosauqua is currently Saturday, Jan 11. Pekin also postponed all evening activities on Friday including a girls/boys SEISC North basketball doubleheader at IMS. No makeup date has been announced.
Both Ottumwa and Cardinal wrestlers were also scheduled to compete on Friday at the Davis County junior varsity tournament before weather forced that event to be cancelled. Ottumwa’s varsity wrestlers are still slated to participate on Saturday morning in the Bill Van Horn Invitational in Pella along with area schools Albia, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and Oskaloosa.
