---- — OTTUMWA — Brok Hopwood drilled seven 3-pointers and scored a season-high 25 points to help the Ottumwa boys' basketball team pick up its first win of the season over Indianola 69-66 Friday at Evans Middle School.
Carter Burns, despite being rendered to the sideline for much of the fourth quarter because of foul trouble, came up huge for Ottumwa in the final minutes, knocking down a clutch 3-pointer, a stick back and several free throws to clinch the win for the Bulldogs. The junior Ottumwa standout finished with 20 points.
For the Bullldogs, it was a hard-earned victory against a solid team in a game that was filled with a palpable intensity and excitement from start to finish.
Ottumwa (1-6) don't play again until Friday, Jan. 3 when the Bulldogs hit the road to take on Des Moines East in CIML Metro Conference action.
