Van Buren grapplers take down Moravia

MORAVIA — Mitch Garrels and Dakota LaRue scored a pair of pivotal pins in consecutive matches to give the Van Buren wrestling team a come-from-behind 48-34 dual win over Moravia. Daylen Fenton's pin of Unity Daugherty in the 106-pound opener helped Moravia open an early lead, which grew to 22-6 after a major decision win by Dallas Price at 126 and a Jacob Martin pin at 132.

The Mohawks also got pins at 152 pounds from Gunner Miller and at 170 pounds from Quinton Castell to keep Moravia's lead at 34-24 with four matches left. With two forfeit wins coming in the final two matches, Van Buren got a match-clinching pin from Garrels at 182 pounds over Alex Cloyed in 47 seconds before LaRue put the Warriors ahead to stay by pinning Tyler Knapp in the second period of the 195-pound finale.

Van Buren (3-9) will be back in action joining Cardinal and Pekin on Saturday at the Southeast Iowa Superconference Meet at Pekin. Moravia (9-15) will also wrestle on Saturday at the Guthrie Center Tournament.
