Blue Demon and Rocket wrestling coaches named coaches of the year

---- — OTTUMWA — The Iowa Coaches and Officials Association recently named Albia wrestling coach Dave Wenger Class 2A coach of the year and Eddyville-Blakesurg-Fremont coach Brett Little Class 1A coach of year for the second consecutive season.

The Blue Demons are ranked second in Class 2A, while the Rockets are ranked second in Class 1A. Both squads are swimming with wrestlers ranked in the top 10 of their weight classes. For Albia, Shadow Leshen sits atop the pack in the 126-pound class, Bryan Leshen ranks second at 132 and Griffin Osing is fourth at 152. In addition, Brett Leshen is ranked third at 160, Dalton Folkerts is fourth at 170 and Carter Isley ranks third at 195.

For the Rockets, Jeren Glosser sits atop the pack at 138 pounds, Blake Marolf ranks third at 145, Tucker Black is third at 152, Tyler Foubert ranks fifth at 160 and Dillon Pigsley occupies third at 170.

The Rockets were Sectional and District Champions in 2013 and they ran the South Central Conference Championship outright. They also had seven state qualifiers.

Meanwhile Albia had six wrestlers qualify for the Class 2A state championship, had five advance to the quarterfinals, three make it to the semifinals and won advance to the state championship.
