PLEASANTVILLE — The road to a South Central Conference title just got a little tougher for the Albia girls basketball team.
After opening a stretch of five consecutive road games to close the regular season on Thursday with a non-conference win at Pleasantville, the Lady Dees stumbled for the first time in SCC play this season in the first of four-straight SCC road games. Clarke rallied from a 35-29 second-half deficit on Friday to edge Albia in the fourth quarter, winning 56-51 thanks to several big shots and clutch free throws by senior Libby Bemis.
Makenzie Griffin scored a game-high 22 points and collected four steals to lead the Albia girls basketball team to a 56-38 road win at Pleasantville on Thursday. Brooke Bettis and Hayley Hudson led the Lady Dees to a dominant night on the glass with 23 of Albia's 48 rebounds against the Trojans.
The loss drops Albia into a tie atop the conference with Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont with one loss apiece. The Lady Dees (13-5, 6-1) will travel to meet EBF next Friday night, but first will head to Bloomfield on Tuesday to take on Davis County while EBF heads to Chariton.
