Indianola bests Ottumwa 64-36

Courier sports staff

INDIANOLA — The Ottumwa girls basketball team couldn’t recover from a slow start in its 64-36 loss to 15th-ranked Indianola Friday in CIML Metro action.

Carrissa Hite spearheaded the Bullodgs’ offense attack with 10 points and Rachel Zingg added seven — all coming from the free-throw line.

The Bulldogs suffered from defensive lapses and a paucity of scoring in the first quarter.

The girls fell behind 9-0 to start the game and trailed 18-6 by the end of the quarter. Hite was the source of all Ottumwa’s first-quarter points.

The Bulldogs were able to generate a little bit more offense in the second quarter but, by the second quarter, they still trailed 33-17. Dani Reed helped bolster Ottumwa’s offense with six points in the quarter.

The Indians’ lead ballooned to 46-26 by the end of the third quarter. Indianola’s lead continued to expand in the fourth quarter on its way to an easy win.

Ottumwa (4-12) plays Des Moines East at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in a CIML Metro Conference game.
