AREA GIRLS BASKETBALL ACTION: Rockets Micetich lifts Centerville to win

OTTUMWA — Kiley Micetich scored 18 points and buried six 3-pointers to lead the Centerville girls to a 51-40 win over Fort Madison.

Despite Micetich’s hot night from beyond the arc, the Big Reds trailed the Bloodhounds 36--35 going into the fourth quarter. Centerville, however, finished the game on a 16-4 run on its to picking up the victory.

“We switched defenses and made some adjustments that caused them some problems,” Centerville coach Nic Belloma said.

The Big Reds Alyssa Barger was just two rebounds shy of a double-double, as she finished with 10 points, eight boards, three blocks and three steals. Maddie Lange added six points and dished out a team-high four assists.

Centerville (4-8, 2-2) play at Albia Friday in South Central Conference action.

WILLIAMSBURG — A solid third quarter combined with 20 points from Kena Veldhuizen catapulted Oskaloosa to a 55-45 victory over Williamsburg Monday.

The two teams battled to a 21-21 tie, but the Indians put some distance between themselves and their opponents by outscoring Williamsburg 15-8 in the third quarter.

“Defensively, we played really well and we rebounded tremendously in the second half,” Oskaloosa coach Steven Kaisand said. “It was a good range of scores and a good team win.”

Indian Taylor Crawford added 10 and Kate Hasselman added eight points. Allie Christenson and Peyton Zickefoose paced Oskaloosa with three assists each.

The Indians (8-2, 3-1) play Albia tonight in a non-conference game.
