Ottumwa loses home dual to Indianola

OTTUMWA — The Ottumwa wrestling team lost a dual to Indianola 42-25 Tuesday at Evans Middle School.

Nathan Cary did his part for Bulldogs, as he pinned Nate Sams in 4:53 at 113. Conner Mier  also bolstered the Bulldogs final tally by pinning Ben Swaim in the 195 pound class. Lucas Lunsford mirrored the examples set by his teammates by pinning his opponent only 29 seconds into the match.

Coming off a second place finish at the Ottumwa Invitational, Isaiah Cox topped Cody Miers by major decision. In addition, Tad Howard picked 8-4 win by decision in the 160 weight class.

For the rest of the Bulldogs — even some of Ottumwa’s top wrestlers — it was a rough night. Karsten Van Velsor, Ottumwa’s most prolific wrestler this season, lost a 9-4 decision to Matt Victor at 145. With the loss, Van Velsor’s record dropped to a still impressive 22-3. Kevin Childs, another one of the Bulldogs better wrestlers, suffered a  tough loss in a competitive match, as he fell to Colby Vlieger by a 3-2 decision.

Ottumwa takes on CIML Metro Conference opponent Des Moines Lincoln Thursday at Evans Middle School.
