AREA GIRLS BASKETBALL ACTION: Comets blast past Harmony

HARMONY — Lindsay Moore scored 22 points as the Cardinal girls basketball team rolled to a 56-23 victory over Harmony in Southeast Iowa SuperConference action on Friday.

Lexi Fullencamp and Danae Moses added eight points each for the Comets, while Delaney Ridgeway grabbed eight rebounds.

Cardinal (7-11, 7-10) will return to action at West Burlington on Tuesday.

CENTERVILLE — Shunyl Busch scored 21 points and Tasha Alexander added 18, while Makenzie Jensen posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds as the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont girls basketball team rolled to a 76-41 win over Centerville in South Central Conference action on Friday.

Madison Lange led Centerville with 12 points while Kiley Micetich added 11.

The Rockets (10-5, 7-1 SCC) will be back in action today when they travel to Pella Christian. Centerville (6-12) will travel to Fairfield on Tuesday.

No. 15 Osky falls to Pella Christian

OSKALOOSA — The 15th-ranked (Class 4A) Oskaloosa girls basketball team picked up just their fourth loss of the season Friday, falling to Pella Christian 49-43 in Little Hawkeye Conference action.

Kena Veldhuizen led Osky with 15 points.

Cori Uitermarkt led the Eagles with 16 points, while Paige Engbers and Jora Vander Hart each added 11. Pella Christian has just one loss in LHC play, now two games ahead of Osky.

The Indians (14-4, 6-3) will return to action on Tuesday, when they host Grinnell.

Pekin girls rise up late against Highland

PEKIN — Samantha Wright hit four big 3-pointers to highlight a game-high 14 points to lead the Pekin girls basketball team to a come-from-behind Southeast Iowa Superconference north win on Friday. The Panthers rallied from a six-point deficit with six minutes left to beat Highland 49-45.

Beth Atwood added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds as Pekin went on an 11-4 run after Highland took a 40-34 lead two minutes into the fourth quarter. The Panthers (9-10, 9-9) will look for their second win in as many days tonight against Sigourney on during ‘Coaches vs. Cancer’ night.
