---- — OTTUMWA – 14 runs in the second inning of game one.

10 runs in the first inning of game two.

If you were looking for late-inning drama, or a long night of softball in Henry County, Mount Pleasant wasn't the place to look on Friday night.

The second-ranked (5A) Ottumwa Bulldogs picked up two wins in less time than it takes to earn one regulation victory over the Panthers, using two very explosive innings to put away both games very early. The Bulldogs responded after being held scoreless in the opening inning of the night by scoring 14 times in their second at-bat on the way to a 17-0 game-one win that was over in just three innings.

As it turned out, the opening inning was the only one the Bulldog were held scoreless all night. Ottumwa broke out immediately in the nightcap with 10 runs in the opening inning and never looked back, tacking on a run in each of the last two frames to complete a second straight three-inning win with a 12-0 shutout of Mount Pleasant.

There wasn't much left for Bulldog head softball coach Frank Huston to say.

"It's hard to blow your horn too much on two games like that," Huston said. "One stat that jumps out is that we were 27-48 batting (.563) on the night, which is kind of unheard of."

Several Bulldogs took their cuts in the victory. Chelsea Griffiths came up big in game one, going 3-3 with a pair of doubles, three RBI and three runs scored while Olivia Roark added three hits and three RBI.

Game two saw a pair of Bulldogs go deep for the first time this season to cap the sweep. Sammy Garrett and Katie Sammons, last season's home run leader, both hammered their first homers of this year in game two while joining Kassidi Henderson with three RBI in nightcap.

No. 2 (5A) Ottumwa (4-0) will have a week to rest up after a dominant start to their season. After outscoring Fort Madison and Mount Pleasant on the road 51-1 over 17 innings, the Bulldogs will play their home opener at Huston Field next Friday night against Marshalltown starting at 5 p.m.
