All The Marbles: Devyn Marble, son of all-time leading Hawkeye scorer Roy Marble, scored 10 points in the game’s first seven minutes and finished with 21 points and nine rebounds Tuesday against Maryland to help Iowa reach the finals.
Bear Necessities: Baylor’s Cory Jefferson scored 21 points Tuesday and Isaiah Austin had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Bears, who are in the championship for the second time in five years.
May Flowers: Captain Eric May, Iowa’s only senior, finished with 12 points Tuesday — his last on a big 3-pointer with 1:01 to play that iced it for the Hawkeyes.
Baylor coach Scott Drew says: “I think there’s only two happy teams at the end of the year, the team that wins the NCAA and the team that wins the NIT. We want to be one of those happy teams.”
Iowa coach Fran McCaffery says: “We have one of the greatest captains around. You don’t win 25 games without phenomenal senior leadership. We’ve got a great junior class that we rely on, but there’s one captain of the ship.”
