Bulldogs win to open season

FAIRFIELD — Whitney Dostal earned meet medalist honors and Darby Patritto was runner-up as the Ottumwa girls golf team opened the season with a win over Fairfield at Fairfield Golf & Country Club on Thursday.

The Bulldogs took the dual by 52 strokes, carding a very strong team round of 194 to the Trojans’ 246.

“It was really exciting to get the opportunity to get out and compete this afternoon in some great weather,” said Ottumwa coach Steph Mishler. “We started off a little shaky, but really pulled it together through the last four holes.”

Dostal finished at 46 while Patritto was one stroke back at 47. Abbie Budan also broke 50 for the Bulldogs with a 49.

“The day exposed some areas of our game that we need to improve upon,” said Mishler. “We are looking forward to getting back to practice in preparation for an extremely competitive Marshalltown Invite next week.”

Every Bulldog finished better than 60, as Bailey Palmer carded 52, Shea Collett had 56, Hannah Lien had 57 and Callie Lawson 59.

Lindsey Repp led Fairfield with a 51, while Ashley Henkel shot 60 and Kristen Terrell shot 63.

The Bulldogs will travel to the Marshalltown Invitational on Thursday. Fairfield is scheduled to travel to Van Buren tonight.
