EBF’s Alexander named third-team IGCA all-state spiker

OTTUMWA — Tasha Alexander’s incredible volleyball season for Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont proved to be good enough to get her a spot on the Class 2A All-State third team.

She was only one of two juniors to be named to the third team. Alexander played an integral role in EBF’s highly successful season that saw the Rockets finish with an impressive 30-9 record. She spearheaded the team’s offensive attack with a team-high 370 kills and 62 aces. Alexander also was her team’s most successful server.

But that wasn’t the only accolade the Rocket star received this postseason. Alexander also was selected for the Class 2A Southeast all-District team. She is joined on this team by fellow teammate Karlie Taylor, who ranks second on the team in kills (270) and aces (48).

Oskaloosa’s volleyball team, which finished 19-17 this season, had two players — Katelyn Hasselman and Allie Christenson — selected for the Class 4A Southeast All-District team.  Hasselman was at the epicenter of the Indians offensive attack, finishing with a team-high 289 kills. Christenson also played a key role in the Indians success this season. The two girls coach also was honored this offseason:  Indians coach Jennifer Comfort was named coach of the year. Fairfield’s Erin Thompson was selected for the all-district team.

She led the Trojans with 223 kills and 62 aces. Plus, she was the most efficient server on the squad.

Rylee Eakins and Shelby Graves of Davis County both were selected for the Class 3A All-District team. Eakins spearheaded the Mustang attack with a team-high 340 kills and ranked first on her squad with 3.33 kills per set. Graves was Davis County’s most efficient server. Both girls played a key role in the Mustangs success this season.

Centerville’s Makenna Pershy was named to the Class 3A All-District team. Pershy led the Big Reds in both kills and aces. In addition, Albia is represented on the All-District team by Hannah Dustin, who led the Blue Demons in kills and tied for first in aces with Brooke Bettis.

Hanna Haynes of Van Buren joins Taylor and Alexander on the Class 2A All-District team. Haynes was far and away her team’s leader in kills with 252 — Payten Hughes followed her with 143.

Jordan Carter and Val Magil of Sigourney were both selected for the Class 1A South Central All-District team. Carter led Sigourney in kills (268) and was the Savages most successful server. She tied for first with Magil on overall aces — they both had 54 each. The two girls play helped the Savages finish their season with a solid 14-7 record.

Moravia’s Katelynn Tracy made all-district as well. She was at the vanguard of her team’s offensive attack, leading the Mohawks in a slew of categories including kills (222), kills per set (3.58), serve success (226) and aces (34).
