Rockets rally in fourth to beat Oskaloosa

OTTUMWA — The Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont boys basketball team saved the best for last in an area rivalry matchup with Oskaloosa. The Rockets scored 28 points in the fourth quarter during a two-point Indian lead through 24 minutes into a 68-57 win at home on Tuesday.

Christian Bambrook had another big night, scoring 27 points while pulling in 15 rebounds for a game-best double-double. Trevor Leffler added 23 points, including four 3-pointers, while Trevor Swartz had 12 points, six assists and four steals.

Austin Redlich led Oskaloosa with 18 points and four trays in the loss. Tyce Sarver added 15 for the Indians, but was held in check by EBF’s Brandon Plate as a 22-9 edge at the foul line helped lift the Rockets to the win.

“The difference in the game really was that we were able to get to the free throw line and capitalize on their fouls,” EBF head coach Travis Stout said. “Brandon really played a great defensive game. He kept Sarver well below his average and did a great job on him all night.”

The Rockets (4-2) return to South Central Conference play on Thursday at Centerville. Oskaloosa (1-4) hosts Knoxville in a Little Hawkeye Conference showdown Friday.

Sigourney boys bounce back to best Keota

KEOTA — The Sigourney boys basketball squad bounced back one night after dropping a tough South Iowa Cedar League home contest to BGM. The Savages hit the road to beat rival Keota, 57-51, on Tuesday night.

“This was a really big win for us. We were disappointed with the BGM loss,” Sigourney boys head basketball coach Mitch Eslick said. “Keota is always a big game for us and it was our best, full game of the year so far.”

Vaclav Bujnoch had another big double-double for the Savages, scoring 25 potions while grabbing 11 rebounds. Allan Denny and Brandon Stuhr each added 12 points for Sigourney (4-2, 4-2) who will be off for a week before hosting HLV next Tuesday in another SICL contest.
