Instead, IHCC never even gained the advantage on the scoreboard until the third game of the match. By then, the first two games went to Iowa Western to mathematically clinch the regional title.
Iowa Western didn’t even allow IHCC to duplicate its effort from earlier in the year. Down 22-20 in game three, the Reivers scored the final five points of the match to avoid dropping a second game this year to the Warriors.
Sophomore Shelby Lautherbach led IHCC once again at the net against the Reivers, scoring on nine kills in the contest as the Warriors lost the battle at the net with Iowa Western outhitting IHCC, 37-25 in kills. Freshman Stephanie Rodriguez came up with two of the Warriors’ four ace serves while freshman setter Katie Soddy had 21 assists for head coach Lydnsey Lyon’s squad.
IHCC (13-15, 0-2) will have to wait until the postseason to get a chance at ending Iowa Western’s run of 17-straight match wins in the regional rivalry series. Before that, Indian Hills will return home for a doubleheader of action as the Warriors host Grand View JV at 4:30 p.m. and William Penn JV at 7 tonight at the Tom Arnold Net Center.
