---- — DES MOINES — The Ottumwa volleyball team bounced back from a rough tournament outing last weekend in a fashion that said a lot about the young Bulldog squad’s character.

The Bulldog spikers vanquished Des Moines East in three games (25-22, 25-22, 25-19) Tuesday in CIML conference action. Ottumwa’s offensive attack was spearheaded by senior Megan Black, who led the Bulldogs with 13 kills. Kassidi Henderson delivered a team-best 15 digs for Ottumwa and Chloe Davis keyed Ottumwa’s offense with 21 assists. Plus, Ellie Hammack led Ottumwa with three aces and Mallary Simmer made 13-14 serves. Ottumwa’s Karissa Wilcoxson hammered six kills and recorded 11 assists.

“We did a really good job of keeping the ball in play and letting the other team make mistakes,” Ottumwa coach Jessica Carson said. “They did a good job of serving in the correct area.

“We definitely needed that after this weekend. This really helped build our confidence and we need to prepare for the conference games coming up.”

Ottumwa plays next at the Oskaloosa Invitational, which starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Oskaloosa High School.
