Rocket spikers clinch league championship

---- — CHARITON — The Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont volleyball team clinched first place in the South Central Conference by sweeping Chariton in three sets Tuesday (25-20, 25-13, 25-21).

With the victory, the ultra-athletic Rockets improved to a perfect 5-0 in conference play. Karlie Taylor spearheaded the Rockets’ efforts by slamming a team-best 17 kills and finishing with14 digs. Page Shafer got E-B-F’s offense rolling with a team-high 35 assists and Tasha Alexander ignited the Rockets on offense and defense with 14 kills and 10 digs. In addition, Sadie Baugher made 10-11 serves.

“We improved on keeping the intensity throughout the match and better focus on the floor,” E-B-F coach Gladys Genskow said. “Chariton was a very scrappy team forcing us to make errors. It is great to take Sole Possesson of the SCC title tonight. We will keep working at improving each day at practice.”

The Rockets (27-4, 5-0) will compete in a tournament at Mediapolis Thursday.
