Centerville falls to Carlisle on the road

CARLISLE — A trip to Carlisle for a non-district matchup between the Big Reds and Wildcats didn’t go Centerville’s way, as they lost 45-14 on Friday.

Centerville was tied with the Wildcats after the first quarter, 7-7. Carlisle, though, put up 10 points in the second quarter to head into halftime with a 17-7 lead. They would outscore Centerville 28-7 in the second half to win 45-14.

Centerville’s Michael Starcevich scored both touchdowns for Centerville. Those two touchdowns were both three yard runs.

For Carlisle, Tyrell Erb was the star. He had 19 carries for 255 yards and five touchdown runs. His longest run came three minutes into the second half when he broke away for a 55 yard touchdown run.

Since it was a non-district battle, the loss doesn’t affect Centerville’s playoff aspirations. However, Centerville (4-3) will be preparing this week for a crucial battle in Fairfield against the Trojans. A win against Fairfield would clinch a third-seed in the playoffs, as well as make a .500 season a certainty.
