---- — OTTUMWA - Monday's season-opening basketball games for Evans Middle School at Keokuk and at Ottumwa were postponed due to the first snow shower of the season, causing travel to and from the schools to be a concern.
The Evans Middle School seventh-grade boys basketball team was scheduled to host Keokuk at 4:30 p.m. At the same time, the Bulldog eighth-grade team was supposed to tip off on the road at Keokuk. No date to reschedule that games has been announced by either school.
The first snow flurries of the year hit Ottumwa and surrounding southern Iowa communities Monday afternoon and continued right up to the early evening hours. Freezing temperatures slated for Monday night made roadways throughout southern Iowa somewhat treacherous for travel.
