Iowa comes back to beat Nebraska-Omaha

IOWA CITY – Aaron White had 20 points and 15 rebounds as Iowa came from behind to beat Nebraska-Omaha 83-75 on Sunday.

Iowa (2-0) sunk 38 free throws to overcome 18 turnovers and a rough shooting night from the outside.

C.J. Carter scored 22 points for Omaha (1-1). The Mavericks led for most of the game before faltering down the stretch.

The teams were tied at 66-66 with 6 1/2 minutes left when Iowa used a 12-2 run to pull away.

Iowa's Devyn Marble scored 15 points. White and Marble combined to make 21 of 26 free throws.

The Hawkeyes looked lethargic and clumsy in the first half. Iowa turned the ball over 12 times in the first half. Omaha routinely beat the Hawkeyes to loose balls and long rebounds to lead 43-36 at halftime.

Iowa shot 3 of 14 from 3-point range.

Omaha's Devin Patterson scored 13 points and John Karhoff added 11.

Iowa State drills UNC-Wilmington

AMES – Naz Long hit eight 3s en route to a career-high 26 points and Iowa State pounded UNC-Wilmington 95-62 on Sunday

Georges Niang had 16 points and DeAndre Kane added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Cyclones, (1-0), who cruised to their 16th straight win in a home opener.

Iowa State hit 15 3s – two shy of the school record set last year against Kansas – and closed the first half on a 38-9 run. Long had six 3s in the first half, becoming the first Iowa State player since 2008 to accomplish that feat.

Chris Dixon had 15 points for UNC-Wilmington (0-2). The Seahawks lost to Iowa by 43 points on Friday.

Iowa State led the nation in 3s made a year ago. But the loss of guards Korie Lucious, Chris Babb and Tyrus McGee left some wondering from where the Cyclones would get their perimeter shooting in 2013-14.

Long, a reserve who hit just 5 3-pointers a year ago, gave Iowa State all it needed from the 3-point line in the first half.
