CENTERVILLE — The Albia Lady Dees captured the Redette Invite held Tuesday in Centerville by a margin of 45 shots over the host squad at the Manhattan Golf Club. Seven schools from the area competed on a day that was sunny but had very cool breezes with temperatures not even reaching 50 degrees.
"We are happy to pick up this title with a number of South Central Conference teams involved in this tournament," Albia head girls golf coach Mike Duea said. "We had seven of the eight nine-hole rounds in the 40s which is exactly what the goals are for this team. Now we will need to move these scores to the somewhat longer golf courses that we will face in the upcoming weeks."
Junior Lexie Van Polen led the Lady Dees with a career-best 88 that included a first round 41 to gain runner-up medalist honors. Alex Krehbiel of Central Lee took medalist honors with an 81. Albia junior Maria Maddy also shot her personal best with a 91 to claim third place in the individual race. Albia's team total of 373 also included Cassie Crall with a 93 and Emily Scala with a 101.
"Our juniors are playing super with Lexie claiming runner-up medalist honors and Maria coming in right behind her," Duea said. "Without four penalty strokes on her final hole, Maria would have been right there with Lexie. Those ladies are playing with a lot of confidence."
Marisa Hunt's round of 96 led Centerville to a team total of 418 while Davis County finished fourth with a team score of 449 highlighted by a round of 109 from Blair Bodkins. Chariton finished fifth as a team with a round of 460, led by Tiffany Dale's round of 98, while Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont finished sixth with a round of 517 led by Sheri Gutch's round of 105.
