---- — CHARITON – The newly-ranked Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont softball squad needed just one big inning to run their winning streak to nine-straight games on Thursday. Three runs in the second inning held up for the 15th-ranked (2A) Rockets as Nataliah Hopkins three-hit shutout lifted EBF to a 3-0 South Central Conference win at Chariton.

“We were able to put together some hits and score some runs in that second inning,” EBF head softball coach Tony Fenton said. “We played great defense and took away some hits as well.”

Hopkins struck out six batters over seven innings of work. Shelby Allgood had a pair of hits, including a double, and scored one of EBF’s three runs in the second inning.

Miranda Davis had two hits for Chariton while sophomore pitcher Ellie Bengtson allowed just one earned run over seven innings in the circle. The Chargers (4-8, 1-3) head to Centerville Monday for SCC action while No. 15 (2A) EBF (15-4, 4-1) will look to extend their winning streak into double digits today at the Oskaloosa Invitational.
