Rockets split at Pella Christian Tourney

PELLA – The South Central Conference-leading Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont baseball squad saw a five-game winning streak end in tournament play on Saturday at the Pella Christian Tournament over the weekend. The Rockets didn’t wait long to try and start and new streak, however, as EBF shook off a 9-0 semifinal loss to Bondurant-Farrar by rallying late for a 4-1 win in the consolation game against Pleasantville.

After struggling to score most of the day, EBF saved its best offense for the end of the day. The Rockets scored three of their four runs in the tournament in the sixth inning of their second game, snapping a 1-1 tie with Pleasantville to earn a split.

Lewie Winkleman lifted the Rockets to their 14th win of the season. Besides coming up with a double and scoring one of EBF’s four runs against Pleasantville, Winkleman also pitched all seven innings and held the Trojans to just one unearned run on four hits while striking out three batters.

EBF returned to SCC play Monday night as the Courier went to press hosting Clarke in a conference doubleheader. The Rockets (14-4) will hit the road for a key showdown tonight as EBF travels to Centerville for a pair of games between two teams seperated by one game atop the SCC standings.
