Rockets roll on to a pair of SCC wins

EDDYVILLE – Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont continued their dominance of the South Central Conference heading into a huge showdown for first place. EBF routed Clarke in a pair of five-inning triumps, winning 14-1 in game one and 11-1 in game two, to set up a matchup with Centerville Tuesday in a battle of the top two teams in the SCC.

Christian Bambrook powered the Rockets, going 5-7 at the plate in the two games with three doubles in the two games along with three RBI and four runs scored. Cory Archer had two hits, including a double, to go along with three RBI and three runs scored in game one while Jevin Jensen had two hits, two RBI and run scored in game two after earning the win on the mound in the opener.

“It was good couple of wins for us,” EBF head baseball coach Rod Ashman said.

EBF (16-4, 11-1) and Centerville (12-6, 8-2) battled Tuesday in a big SCC doubleheader as the Courier went to press. The Big Reds split a doubleheader Monday night with Knoxville, winning a 9-5 decision and losing a 13-3 contest to the Panthers.

The Rockets (16-4, 11-1) are back in action tonight for a big game at third-ranked (1A) Twin Cedars. The Big Reds (13-7, 8-2) are not scheduled to play again until playing an SCC doubleheader at Clarke on Monday.
