OTTUMWA — Bob Thomas had the closest shot to the pin the in Men’s Senior League event Thursday at Cedar Creek Golf Course.
In the Orioles group, Dave McSpadden had the least putts with 12, and he also had the longest putt. Dan Anderson and Frank Parsons tied for low net score with 32.
In the Eagles group, Morris Frisbie had the longest putt, and Mike Miller had the least putts with 13. Ken Phillips, Rich McCallister and Cecil Jamison tied for low net score with 35.
Indy driver to
OTTUMWA — Indy Driver Oriol Servia of Panther Racing will make an appearance at the Indian Hills Community College Advanced Technology Center Thursday.
The event, which is sponsored by the U.S. National Guard, is open to the public and free of charge. Those in attendance will be able to check out Servia’s Indy car, meet his pit crew and test out the driving simulator.
U.S. collegiansto host Cuba
DES MOINES — The U.S. collegiate national baseball team will host its Cuban counterpart next month in a five-game international “friendship” series.
The Triple-A Iowa Cubs said Tuesday the series will start in Des Moines on July 18. The Americans and Cubans will then play two games each in Omaha, Neb., and Durham, N.C.
The U.S. and Cuba resumed play at the collegiate level last year in Havana after a 16-year hiatus. This year’s series will be the first on American soil between the two nations since 1996.
The 24-man American roster will be announced on June 30.
The team will be coached by Jim Schlossnagle of TCU.
