Comets overwhelm Mohawks

MORAVIA — The Cardinal baseball team overwhelmed Moravia 12-0 Wednesday in a non-conference game.

Brennon Elder and Taylor Blunt yielded only one hit in a combined five innings of work on the mound for the Comets.

Elder fanned five batters while allowing one hit in the first three innings, while Blunt surrendered no hits while striking out two and walking two in the final two frames. The game only lasted five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Offensively, Dakota Showman went 2-4 with a double and three RBI for the Comets and Charlie Rachford went 2-2 with two RBI. In addition, Cardinal's Cody Streeby tripled and drove in two runs.

"This was a good confidence-building game for us," Thomas Hallgren said. "Hopefully this will get our offense on the right track moving forward."

Moravia plays at Moulton-Udell today in Bluegrass Conference action.

Meanwhile, Cardinal (11-5) plays host to West Burlington Friday in Eldon in Southeast Iowa Superconference South action.
