---- — OTTUMWA — After dropping the first home match of the season on Thursday, the Indian Hills volleyball team didn’t have a lot of time to linger with a trip scheduled less than 24 hours later to West Burlington to compete in the Southeastern Tournament.

Despite dropping six of the last eight matches going into that four-match, two-day tournament, IHCC head coach Lyndsey Lyon had high hopes for what her Warriors could do on over the weekend.

“We’ve got time to turn it around, especially this weekend,” Lyon said. “I think we’ve got four opponents that I think we should be able to take on and get things back on track. The girls just have to want it right now.

“We have to be together as a team. We have to get off the roller coaster.”

For a few days, at least, Indian Hills did exactly that. And it couldn’t have come at a better time.

The Warriors went from losing six of eight matches to a team that will ride into a showdown with their biggest rivals on Wednesday having won four of the last five. Indian Hills began the bounce-back by sweeping three of four matches in its most impressive weekend showing yet this season, beating Lewis & Clark (25-16, 25-16, 25-19), Carl Sandburg (25-15, 25-23, 25-9) and East Central (25-21, 25-19, 25-18) to get back out from under .500 over the weekend at the Southeastern Tournament.

Only district rival Lake Land kept it from being a perfect weekend for the Warriors in West Burlington. The Illinois foe picked up a 25-23, 25-17, 25-16 victory over IHCC, dropping Indian Hills to 9-9 overall as the Warriors return to the home floor for the second match of the season at the Tom Arnold Net Center in 2013 against Iowa Lakes.

IHCC needed four games after the four-match weekend in West Burlington to win its first home match of 2013. After edging the 2-11 Lakers in game one 25-23, losing game two 25-18 and falling behind early 3-0 in the pivotal third game, Indian Hills rode a run of impressive digs and continued stellar net play by sophomore Shelby Lauterbach to earn a four game win, pushing the Warriors record back over .500 with a 25-23, 18-25, 25-17, 25-19 win Monday night at the Tom Arnold Net Center.

“This match honestly shouldn’t have gone four games. It just seems again like we still ride that roller coaster a little too much at times,” Lyon said after the Warriors 10th win of the season. “We’ve faced a lot of tough competition early in the season, especially last week with the Kirkwood Tournament and the match itself against Kirkwood, but we’ve struggled at times with inconsistent play. I think we finally got a glimpse into what kind of a team we can be when we get off that roller coaster and play the kind of consistently good volleyball we are capable of.”

Lauterbach and fellow returning sophomore Peyton Crosser combined for 65 kills in the Southeastern Tournament. The East Peoria, Illinois native led the Warriors in three matches, slamming home 40 kills in the four matches played at Loren Walker Arena.

Kassidy Guihan also had a successful return to West Burlington as the former WBND Falcon led IHCC with 52 digs in the tournament before producing several more against the Lakers, including a spectacular save to keep a point alive during an 8-0 run that changed the third game around. That run put Indian Hills in front for good for the remainder of a match that featured 16 ties and six lead changes.

Indian Hills (10-9) will be back in action at the Net Center on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The Warriors will face the biggest annual regular-season regional matchup of the year on the schedule when IHCC hosts fourth-ranked national powerhouse Iowa Western, the team that has kept the Warriors from a national tournament berth each of the past two seasons.
