“This match honestly shouldn’t have gone four games. It just seems again like we still ride that roller coaster a little too much at times,” Lyon said after the Warriors 10th win of the season. “We’ve faced a lot of tough competition early in the season, especially last week with the Kirkwood Tournament and the match itself against Kirkwood, but we’ve struggled at times with inconsistent play. I think we finally got a glimpse into what kind of a team we can be when we get off that roller coaster and play the kind of consistently good volleyball we are capable of.”
Lauterbach and fellow returning sophomore Peyton Crosser combined for 65 kills in the Southeastern Tournament. The East Peoria, Illinois native led the Warriors in three matches, slamming home 40 kills in the four matches played at Loren Walker Arena.
Kassidy Guihan also had a successful return to West Burlington as the former WBND Falcon led IHCC with 52 digs in the tournament before producing several more against the Lakers, including a spectacular save to keep a point alive during an 8-0 run that changed the third game around. That run put Indian Hills in front for good for the remainder of a match that featured 16 ties and six lead changes.
Indian Hills (10-9) will be back in action at the Net Center on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The Warriors will face the biggest annual regular-season regional matchup of the year on the schedule when IHCC hosts fourth-ranked national powerhouse Iowa Western, the team that has kept the Warriors from a national tournament berth each of the past two seasons.
