Tigers too much for Warriors in men's soccer shutout

(Continued)

Seemingly any hopes for IHCC were dashed as Jose Gomez scored his first of three goals seconds before the end of the first half to put Marshalltown up 3-0. Krause then added a goal on Carrillo’s second assist two minutes into second half, putting the Tigers up 4-0.

Back-to-back goals by Hernan Lopez in a five-minute span started the match-clinching rally for Marshalltown, who improved to 8-2-1 overall on the season and 4-1 in Region XI. Carrillo added a penalty kick and Andrew Valett put home a very popular goal for the Tiger bench in the 78th minute, so much so that the Tiger sophomore earned a Gatorade bath from his jubilant teammates after the match was over.

Seigle hopes he doesn’t have to wait long to see his team be able to celebrate after a match in 2013. The next chance for the Warriors (0-8, 0-5) will come back at home on Saturday in another regional contest against NIACC at 2 p.m.

“This has been one of the most frustrating seasons I’ve had so far as a head coach just because we haven’t been able to learn how to fight hard for each other yet and we don’t have the numbers to not deal with making those types of stupid mistakes,” Seigle said. “We have to learn from our mistakes. I can learn from mistakes as long as we learn from them. NIACC’s the most important game now just because it’s the next one and the next chance for us to prove we’re better than what we’ve shown.”
