Bulldog linksters fall to Des Moines Roosevelt

OTTUMWA — The Ottumwa golf team suffered a tough dual loss to CIML Metro Conference rival Des Moines Roosevelt 154-150 Thursday at the Cedar Creek Golf Course.

The two teams have competed in a number of the same tournaments thus far this season, with one squad coming out on top by no more than a stroke or two. Ottumwa’s Matthew Walker did his part to help his team pick up the victory, by carding a two-under par score of 34. Walker birdied holes 1, 5, 6 and 7.

“It was gonna be fun today,” Walker said. “They [the Roughriders] are our good friends and we just enjoy playing with each other.”

Dillon Patritto also turned in a solid performance, finishing with a 39.

“I was really hitting anything that good,” Patritto said, “I was scrambling, but I putted all right.”

Braxton Coble finished right behind Patritto with a 40, Gavin Dostal shot a 41 and Trey Thomas carded a 43.

“We’re disappointed,” Ottumwa golf coach Scott Maas said. “We looked forward to this all year long. We knew it would be close, we knew Roosevelt had a good team. Hats off to them, they had some good scores.”

Aaron Wirt shot the top score for Roosevelt, carding a 35, and Willis Gaer shot a 36. In addition, Joe Wandro finished with a 38.

Ottumwa competes again Monday in a triangular against CIML Metro Conference foes Indianola and Des Moines East 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Indianola Country Club.
